RE: Are campers supposed to flex?

The flexing freaked me out at first...Comming from TT and 5rs I wasn't used to seeing the bed and camper flex with and against each other. I just adjusted my mirrors so I can't see it unless I intentionally look for it...

RE: Under Bed Storage

I would add prolly 100lbs to your overhead area, plus the stuff you store under it. Hey, wait a minute. Wouldn't that effectivly move your center of gravity forward! This would be a added benefit since the short bed campers tend to have this behind the axle......

RE: 20.7 MPG on my Dodge dually

If you have the time could you come to Ohio. I have a tow bar.. Maybe you could pull my F350 around for a while so I could save some fuel too.. The only way I'd get 20+MPG is falling off a cliff.. I really wanted the Dodge dually shortbed but I just couldn't get past the flairs they call fenders.. I sure made a mistake.. DSeckt, I have the very truck you are refering too. Personally I like the fenders but thats not the point of my post. Your Ford has the better bed length for a short bed camper. (Dodge = 6'-3" Ford = 6'-8" IIRC) But thats also not the point of my post. I have gotten as good as 20.3 calculated USMPG on one long road trip. But typically my MPG empty is in the 17-18 range for everyday driving. With the 861 strapped on I have seen as low as 8.9 on a long streach of strong head winds, and as high as 14.5 on that same long streach going the other direction two days later! So an average of 11.7 isn't too far off.... Just for compairison sake to what you get.

RE: Off set brackets for dulley truck

Call your local dealer. I picked up mine as take offs for $125.00 Campers are ordered with the brackets sometimes but sold to SRW customers so they take the brackets off and sell em!

RE: Front receiver w/ cargo rack problem (Bodiak)

I like the Bodiak in that it doesn't hang down low. However I didn't like the mounting points. So I am building my own that uses the existing tow hook bolt holes, but otherwise looks like the Bodiak. I wonder if you could modify the Bodiak to work this way?

RE: Dually Brackets

On my Atwoods you didn't have to break the original seal to the front of the camper. The dually swing out brackets bolt were the jack bolted to the camper bracket and then the jack bolted back on. Very easy job. Although I would recomend you do it on a nice calm day. Not one with 25mph winds like I did!!!! Also check your local dealers. I picked mine up from them for $125.00 as they were take offs from a camper that came in with swing outs but was purchased by a SRW customer.

RE: Tire Air Pressure

I have found thru experimentation that the best tire pressure is the one that gives you full tread contact with the surface with the applicable load. In my truck it is 80psi front and 10psi rear empty.........I don't however actually run the rears at 10psi! With a 4100+ lb camper in the back of my dually I start loosing full tread contact on the dualls at 65psi.. I also found that if I run just on the high side of pressure (outside of tread patch is just barely touching) I get better fuel economy than what the tire load chart would suggest for PSI.... I don't care if it rides a little rougher.....It is a truck!!!!!

RE: Goodbye Onan, Hello Honda (w/pics)

Why does everyone keep harping on the overheating of the Honda 2000? I've never heard of anyone having one overheat. It's built in a box. A small one at that. For cooling airflow, there are only 4 little vents on the left and 7 little vents on the right. Other than that it's in a box. Boykin Spaniel has his 3000 in a box (see picture below) and has never had a problem with over heating. His quote: "Just back from Bristol Motor speedway. Ran the Honda eu3000 inside the genbox for about 60 hours straight. Day time temps were in the high 90's during the majority of the daylight hours. The Camping was on a a gravel parking lot with no shade. AFRICA HOT might describe this experience. The Honda never missed a beat. This box has a 12 volt, 10" fan built into one side. As you can see there are two vents one for engine exhaust and one for Fan exhaust. I did do an oil change on this motor yesterday. Everything looked great, IE-NO PROBLEMS! The notion that these things should not be ran while in a box, has no merit as long as there is some additional circulation. " http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa222/SerialKiller_photos/Bristol8-07007.jpg Hayes Power Equipment sells aluminum boxes specificly for the Hondas. They state on their website: "Louvered and Fan assisted for proper air circulation. Design allows fresh air in and exhaust out. (Note: no fan required for the EU2000i version)". All you have to do is place your hands over the louvers on the sides and you'll be able to see how much air is being sucked over the generator. Dave. Thats pretty cool! A bit pricey! But very cool!

RE: Gas powered generator in place of propane

A generator compartment is not the same as putting the Honda in an enclosed room or in the camper itself. It is a compartment designed and intended for the installation of a internal combustion engine powered generator. It is propane powered only for the fact that propane is already on board and convienent. If your fridge and furnace and stove was fueled with Alcohol! I would imagine that is what your on-board genny would be powered with. Step aside weight police, The Honda Generator Police have arrived!!! Wow! my posts are "thread jumping" Thats cool:C

RE: Lance 845

I think your going to be fine. Someone may know this, are there any shortbed trucks with higher GVRW than 9800 pounds? I can't think of any and that camper is designed for a shortbed truck. mc Dodge and Ford both have a 350/3500 short bed dually that is higher. If I remember correctly the 08 Ford 350 SRW short beds are at 10K + or -. Back to topic: I had an 845 on a 2500 Dodge Ram. With air bags it was very well balanced and a pleasure to drive. I agree that you will be fine. Enjoy!

It looks very nice job well done but I would be scared of it I look at it this way if the manf. does not use it in the camper nether should I This comming from someone who has a 6" lift on the truck carrying a already top heavy camper?:h Talk about "un-safe"!!!!!!

RE: Gas powered generator in place of propane

Class A's and C's both have a generator powered by the same fuel the rig runs on. Out of the same tank as well. Exhaust is piped in the same manor as our TC gen sets. I don't see the risk or danger.

RE: Your best advice on weight- 2500HD vs. Lance 861?

Not quite- the Duramax weighs 836# TOTAL (according to GM) Only wish V8 gas engines weighed 36 lbs + / - See the article: Pickuptruck.com This myth of diesels weighing 1/2 ton more that a gas engine is just that. Just trying to keep the facts straight. Yea, but thats a "Duramax" diesel! A real Diesel "CUMMINS" is heavier duty! Just kidding.....Really I am just kiddin!!!

RE: Your best advice on weight- 2500HD vs. Lance 861?

Present wheels and tires are stock steel 16x6.5 IIRC; and Michelin LTX 285/75/16D; 3305# per tire. Not the ideal wheel for that tire but it works well off-road and was fine for the fifth wheel weight. Thinking I can upgrade to the GM 16x7 from the 3500SRW and use something like the BFG KO or Goodyear Silent Armor in LT285/75/R16E. Those are 3750# tires. Anyone have any experience on how those will handle on / off road vs. the 19.5's? Any comments pro / con on New Horizons in Douglassville, GA as a dealer? Thanks! Mike Sounds like those tires will get you there. Double check the rim weight capacity!

RE: Spray Paint? Amazing!!! Updated Photos

Great job! I need to paint the old gutten tent trailer I use for excess camping gear. Its looking a litte rough. You have inspired me to use a rattle can!!!! PS. As far as I can tell that is a OGER approved resperation devise!!!! Osham on the other hand might have an issue LOL

RE: Your best advice on weight- 2500HD vs. Lance 861?

The diesel/transmission is 1000# heavier than the gas version of the same truck? Its pretty close to that. About 800 lbs + or - Back to the topic at hand.... It is a great camper. We had an 845 before we got the 861 and it is night and day difference between the two in regards to space, comfort, ammenities.... I think you will enjoy the 861 alot. A few mods to your truck to handle the weight and you should be good to go..... I have seen and there are also some peeps on this board that have the old Lance 881 on single rear wheel trucks. The 881 was a few hundred pounds heavier than the 861 and a few inches longer as well. All your camper weight will not be on your rear axle. Mine puts about 75 lbs on the front axle but the Dodges have a shorter short bed than the Chevy so you will have a better split. My trailers also put another 600 - 800 lbs on the rear axle as well. If you can get your tire rating up to the task, that is the major concern as far as my opinion goes. With my dually tire rating I can go up to 11340 on the rear and I am not even close to that yet. If I put the full 80psi in the rear tires I don't get full tread contact loaded with my heaviest tounge trailer. If you do alot of investigation and I have. There is very little difference between a 2500, 3500 and 3500 Dually when it comes to the important stuff like Brakes, Bearings, Axle Tubes and shafts. They are the exact same trucks with a little different spring packages is all. Rickson is also not the only option for 19.5 direct bolt on wheels for 8 lug either. Do a google search and you will find many, it is becoming a very popular upgrade to all the 2500 - 3500 series trucks and more companies are making rims to direct bolt....(19.5 inch rims have historically been a 10 bolt pattern if you didn't know already) Hope this helps... (very surprised the wieght police have not found this thread yet?)

RE: Lance 845 on a Megacab 2500 4x4

It says "not recomended". It doesn't say "not allowed". Do a search on my posts, you'll find out how much I carry on my Mega Cab. I am not going to say anything more on this subject as it has been beaten to death. Bye
